Who is NYSERNet?
NYSERNet is a private not-for-profit corporation created to foster science and education in New York State. Its mission is to advance network technologies and applications that enable collaboration and to promote technology transfer for research and education. An internet pioneer, NYSERNet has delivered next-generation Internet services to New York State's research and education community for more than twenty years. NYSERNet members include New York State's leading universities, colleges, museums, healthcare facilities, primary and secondary schools, and research institutions. NYSERNet's Board of Directors is composed of CIO's and other senior personnel drawn from and representing New York's leading research universities and institutions. (www.nysernet.org)
NYSERNet Responsibilities
1) Provide support to the RIC Coordinators and other project participants;
2) Identify relevant Internet2 resources to support in-class projects;
3) Arrange introductions with Internet2 resource sites and provide a seamless
transition to the RIC Coordinator and other project participants. NYSERNet
will stay involved as much as is deemed necessary or appropriate;
4) Provide on-going support for utilization of Internet2 resources;
5) Coordinate bi-weekly status updates throughout project period between
the various RICs and participants.
What is a Regional Information Center (RIC)?
There are 12 Regional Information Centers (RICs) serving school districts in New York State. Organized under the Boards of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES) structure, a RIC provides technical solutions for one or more BOCES and their component school districts. Combined, RICs serve 700 public school districts and provide approximately $300 million in annual services to New York State schools. ( www.nysrics.org)
RIC Roles & Responsibilities
1) Identify a RIC/Model Schools/Distance Learning liaison for the global
summit project, and provide support to the classroom participants;
2) Work with NYSERNet to identify relevant Internet2 resources to support in-
class projects and work with districts to help with implementation in
project;
3) Provide on-going support for classrooms;
4) Work with other participating RICS to plan and coordinate presentations
of projects to other participating classrooms;
5) Coordinate with the local technical/ Distance Learning people to ensure
that project is appropriate;
6) Coordinate with NYSERNet in timely manner to ensure that the Internet2
resources are available for sites;
7) Ensure CIPA compliance and video permissions;
8) Help facilitate the Virtual Global Summit;
9) Coordinate and facilitate the Global Summit Planning Team.
Roles & Responsibilities of Participating Classrooms
Each Global Summit Project will:1) Involve teacher(s) in the planning process;
2) Create a project that meets the requirements;
3) Work with the RIC and NYSERNet to incorporate Internet2 resources into
classroom project;
4) Create a commercial and additional advertising for their project;
5) Create a presentation to share with others about the project;
6) Regular video updates;
7) Teacher needs to ensure that all appropriate AUP and other policy items
are addressed;
8) Share presentation at the Virtual Global Summit;
9) Provide 1-2 students to be a part of the Global Summit Planning Team.

Comprised of 2 RIC representatives, at least 1 of the teachers and 1-2 students from each classroom. This team will:
1) take care of the design, planning, coordination and running of the Global
Summit;
